Can see the guest from the host

Hi there,

I use Virtual PC 2007 on a XP SP3 host machine. I have set the
physical card of the host to connect the guest, and I can access the
Internet or the network from the guest. I've set te shared folders and
all is fine. But consversely, I can't ping the guest from the host...
The guest use the DHCP/DNS from the local network.

Any help welcome.

What is the guest OS? Does the guest OS have a blank Windows login password
(i.e. you don't type in a password to log on)? Windows considers this
non-secure and so there won't be full network access between the guest and
the host without providing credentials. Depending on what you're doing
(such as pinging), you may not get prompted for those credentials. This can
be affected by what the 2 OSes are and by what service packs or other
updates have been applied, which is why I asked what the guest OS is.

Hi Mike, thank you for your answer !
The guest OS is Windows XP SP3 and yes you are right there is no
password. I will add one asap and test again.

The problem was due to the guest firewall.

Don't think I've ever run into a problem with that because usually when you
enable file and printer sharing, an exception for the firewall is
automatically created. Unless, you're not using Windows' built-in firewall.

But good that you figured it out.
